Another baby beating bad boyfriend.

‘Cowardly attack’ left toddler like stroke victim.

Lance Teriwhi Corkery will spend less than five years in jail (actual minimum jail time is 2 years 5 months) for inflicting injuries on a baby that left her in a condition like that of a stroke survivor.

The 39-year-old unemployed Whangarei man “lost it” when his girlfriend’s child, Tinishar Walker, 17 months, was crying. He picked her up, shook her violently and dropped her twice so her head slammed against an open drawer as she fell to the floor.

Tinishar, now 22 months, is still recovering from the “cowardly attack” and is barely able to walk by herself, struggles to feed herself and has to wear a protective padded helmet in case she falls.

She wears a splint on her left leg for support as that side of her body is the worst-affected. She will need help for the rest of her life. Medical experts say her condition is similar to that of someone who has had a stroke.

39 yrs old, unemployed and with a 19 yr old girlfriend? This guy is one serious loser! Full article here.

Yes, the way to get a crying child to stop crying is to do something to them that will make them cry more if they don’t lose consciousness. We get that a lot in the US, too, and the abusers never get enough of a sentence.

The justice systems in both our countries need a serious overhaul… In 5 years this guy will be out and walking around, while this little girl will most likely still be struggling to walk at all 20 years from now.

Our new justice minister Judith Collins seems to agree, as explained in this article. Let’s hope it’s not just talk.

Let’s hope… let’s hope both our legal systems get a good overhaul.

Trench just posted about Susan Smith, a woman who was sentenced to life in prison for murdering both her beautiful little boys. She’s now demanding a retrial. A woman who admitted to murdering her babies because a man she was obsessed with didn’t want to raise her children thinks that her sentencing was unfair. The jury in that case didn’t give her the death penalty because they wanted her to have to live with what she had done… if she gets her retrial, maybe she’ll get lucky and have a jury that doesn’t feel that way.
