More top-notch Kiwi 'Parents'.

Father not guilty of baby’s murder, guilty of manslaughter. Joshua Woodcock, 25 was today found not guilty of murdering his baby daughter Sarah Haddock-Woodcock in Putaruru four years ago. Woodcock was also found guilty of two counts of assaulting the three-month-old child, causing her grievous bodily harm and wilfully neglecting her. Sarah was found dead in her parents’ home in Putaruru on March 12, 2005.

An autopsy on Sarah revealed injuries including eight broken ribs and haemorrhaging, a tear to skin between her gum and lip, and bruising to her jaw and chest. The skull fracture which killed Sarah was four centimetres long.

The baby’s mother Jaymie Haddock, was jailed for 2-1/2 years in 2007 for wilfully neglecting her. How pathetic are our sentences here in NZ? She is only required to serve one third of that sentence, so is possibly out already. Talk about your slap on the hand with a wet bus ticket. I think her and the so-called father (read: sperm provider) deserve sentences more like these.

Wow… this would almost make me feel grateful for our sentencing here, if not for the fact that there is just nothing that can make amends for what such people do to their babies. Also, we are far, far too lenient on child sexual abusers here.

How much time does a manslaughter conviction get in NZ?

As far as I know it ranges from three to ten years, though criminals are only required to serve one third. Also our very left leaning judicial system is much more likely to hand down a sentence closer to the minimum than the maximum.

I completely agree with what you say. I served just 10 months in prison for the willful neglect charge that I was convicted of after the death of my daughter. For you people out there that think I’m happy with how it turned out, then perhaps you should learn more about the people that you comment about, before passing judgement. I am disgusted in our justice system, and this is coming from a person who “got a slap on the hand”. But I appreciate your opinions, and don’t blame you at all for the way that you think.

    Wow… that’s disgusting.

And here I thought our system was far too left leaning. Well, I do still think it is, but wow.
