Mayor's 'hypocrisy' angers parents

September 4, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Seven pupils in the Wanganui Otaki Primary School’s immersion unit – who wanted a “h” inserted into Wanganui – wrote to the Wanganui mayor outlining why they thought that should be the case.

In a short written reply Mr Laws told the students:

“When your class starts addressing the real issues affecting Maoridom – particularly the appalling rate of child abuse and child murder within Maori society, then I will take the rest of your views seriously.”

I agree with Laws; the children were probably encouraged by their teachers to write the letters. They would be better off devoting their efforts to far more serious issues such as the shocking rate of child murder and child abuse within Maori society.

What do you think?
